The first meeting of the working group on the development of gastronomic tourism in the region was held in Astrakhan

On May 15 the Astrakhan Scientific Library named after N.K. Krupskaya hosted a meeting of the working group on the development of gastronomic tourism in the Astrakhan region, which was attended by the President of the Association for the  Development and Promotion of Cultural and Gastronomic Tourism Margarita Polonik, representatives of sectoral executive authorities of the Astrakhan Region, subjects of the tourism industry of Astrakhan, Astrakhan producers, higher and secondary vocational educational institutions.

During the meeting they discussed the development of gastronomic tourism in the Astrakhan region. It was noted that there are enough resources: own and borrowed specialty products, as well as enterprises that are ready to provide services for receiving groups of tourists.

Today, a large number of gastronomic events are held on the territory of the Astrakhan region every year, such as Fisherman’s Day with the fish soup feast, Watermelon Day. In 2017, the Gastronomic Festival of National Cuisine of the Astrakhan Region “Vobla”, the First International Forum “Gastronomic Roads of the Great Silk Road. Travel for taste, Astrakhan 2017 ” were organized.

Due to the growing interest to gastronomic tourism, the catering system and the hotel business of the region are already adapting to their needs, and gastronomic tours are being formed. The first “tasty” route in the Astrakhan region is ready and is being offered to tourists. Tourists will not only be able to taste the famous Astrakhan goodies, but also learn to cook traditional local dishes – so that they can recreate them in their kitchen. In the route there are visits to the cheese factory, brewery, sturgeon farm, market, farms.

Thus, the vector of development of gastronomic tourism in the region is indicated and requires further study. In the near future, it is planned to improve the existing tourist offer of Astrakhan tour operators, taking into account the gastronomic possibilities of the region, as well as the development of new tourist routes for residents and guests of the Astrakhan region.
